I’m Changing a Car Battery: Do I Need Tools to Change a Car Battery?

I had a friend of mine ask me once, do I need tools to change a car battery? I said quit screwing around man, he said I’m serious.

I don’t really want to say that was a stupid question, but hell, it was a stupid question!

Guy’s you absolutely need tools to change a car battery.

This is the only way you don’t need tools to change a battery

Some batteries are installed some  vehicles improperly.  Here is what I mean by that. The positive and negative battery cables are so loose that you could remove and install the battery by hand.

The battery tie down is non-existent from how it was from the factory.

That my friend is what you call a hot mess! DON’T LEAVE YOUR BATTERY THIS WAY

The exact tools you may need to change any battery

The tools that you will need to change a car battery is pretty straight forward. You may need

1. 10mm wrench, 8mm wrench, 12mm wrench, 13mm for your battery cables.
2. 10mm socket 12mm socket, 13mm socket 8mm socket for the battery hold down strap

One of the hardest car batteries to replace

The most ridiculous battery location I’ve ever seen is a 2001 Chrysler Sebring. Ready for step one on how to replace the battery on this vehicle?

1. Remove the left front driver wheel. Yes, remove it. You mean to tell me Chrysler couldn’t have thought of a better place to put a battery?
2. Remove the positive and negative batter cable with a 10 mm wrench or socket.
3. Remove the batter support with 13 mm socket.
4. Remove the batter and take care not to injure your back.

If you do not want to remove the wheel to replace a battery, don’t buy this car.
