I Hate Streaks | What Is the Best Cloth to Clean Car Windows?

Contents

I am a car cleaning freak and love to see things spotless inside and outside of my car. After washing my car I just hate to see little spots and streaks, especially on my car windows. It really makes my blood boil, and I feel like all my hard work is wasted.

My friends leave streaks on their windows and it annoys me so bad. It happens from them washing their own car or either a car wash. When I always point it out, they always ask, then what is the best cloth to clean car windows?

That’s when I introduce them to the shammy. Then take my recommendation and I never see streaks on their windows again.

How do I get rid of streaks on my car windows?

I’ve been using my shammy for 8 years now and I don’t see me stop using it anytime soon. That’s what I use to get rid of streaks on my windows. Shammy for short the real name is Chamois leather.

Not only do I dry my windows with it, but I also use it to dry my car too. The Shammy is perfect for drying the exterior of the car. Why? Chamois leather is very absorbent and has near to zero abrasive properties.

shammies which are a leather material, are made from sheepskin or lambskin.

Do shammies get worn out?

Shammies do get worn out just like any other material in the word. What really makes them wear out faster is not keeping it moist after it is used.

I keep my shammy in a ziplock bag with a small amount of water on the shammy. If you do not keep it moist, it will harden and deteriorate.

How to properly clean your shammy

I hope you didn’t think you were just going to stick your shammy in a ziplock and call it a day. You don’t have to do this, but it makes for the longevity of the shammy.

After using the shammy, it should be washed completely with soapy water, rinsed thoroughly and wrung out repeatedly until it is clean.  After cleaning the shammy squeeze the water out of it and then hang it up to air dry away from direct sunlight.

How much does a shammy cost?

Shammies are really affordable, you can get 1 for $4-5. If I were you I would get a pack of ten shammies and replace it every year.

I’m going to retire my shammy sometime this year and buy a set of 10 to use too.
